Who is responsible
Cape Town Jacks is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, as that term is used in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).
Our Information Officer can be reached at info@capetownjacks.co.za, or through the contact form on this website. Please mark your message “Information Officer” so that it reaches the right person.

What we collect
We keep as little information about you as we can. Depending on how you interact with us, that may include:
- Mailing list: the name or nickname you give us, your email address, and the fact that you confirmed you are 18 or older and asked to join.
- Ticket purchases: the name, email address and booking reference held by FIXR, our ticketing provider, and shown to us on the door list.
- Enquiries: the name, email address and message you submit through the contact form. We do not store these on the website; they arrive as an email.
- Bro chat: what you type, which is sent to our AI provider to produce an answer (see section 11).
- Website data: page views counted on our own server without cookies, and your IP address, which our host and security software see for as long as it takes to serve the page and block abuse.
We do not ask for, record or keep any information about your health, HIV status, sexual-health history or what you do at an event. Please do not send us these details.
03
Special personal information
Because Cape Town Jacks is a men-only sexual social club, the fact that you are on our mailing list, have bought a ticket or have attended an event can reveal something about your sex life. POPIA treats this as special personal information and gives it extra protection.
We process it only with your consent, which you give when you tick the consent box to join the mailing list or when you buy a ticket and agree to our terms, or where POPIA otherwise allows it. We never publish it, never share it with another guest, and never use it for anything other than the purposes in section 04.
04
Why we collect it
We use personal information only to:
- manage your ticket and admit you to an event;
- contact you about an event you have booked, including changes or cancellations;
- send you the Between Bros mailer, if you have asked for it;
- answer your enquiry or your question to Bro; and
- keep our events and this website safe, including recording that a person has been refused entry or banned.
05
Our lawful basis
We process personal information because you have given consent (for example, to receive the mailer), because it is necessary to perform our agreement with you when you buy a ticket, or because we have a legitimate interest in running safe events. For special personal information we rely on your consent, as set out in section 03.
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew it.
06
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information, and we never share the identity or attendance of any guest with another guest or with the public.
We share limited information with the service providers (“operators”) that make our events and this website possible:
- FIXR: ticketing and payment processing.
- Brevo: storing the mailing list and sending the Between Bros mailer.
- Anthropic: the AI model that writes Bro’s answers. It receives the text of your conversation with Bro, not your name, email address or IP address.
- Google: the venue map, only if you choose to show it.
- Our website host and email provider.
Each operator is required to keep the information confidential and to process it only on our instruction or under its own published terms. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone’s safety.
07
Information sent outside South Africa
Some of our service providers store or process data outside South Africa: FIXR in the United Kingdom, Brevo in the European Union, and Anthropic and Google in the United States. Where personal information is transferred across a border, we do so in accordance with section 72 of POPIA, on the basis that the recipient is bound by law, binding rules or an agreement that provides an adequate level of protection, because you have consented, or because the transfer is necessary to perform our agreement with you.
08
How long we keep it
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe, and then only long enough to record that you opted out.
- Ticket records: as long as we are required to keep transaction records, generally five years.
- Enquiries: up to 12 months after the matter is resolved.
- Bro chat questions: not kept, unless you tick the box described in section 11.
- Safety records: where a person has been banned, for as long as the ban applies.
09
How we protect it
We limit access to personal information to the few people who need it to run an event. We use reputable providers with their own security controls, and we keep door lists only for as long as an event needs them.
If a security compromise affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
10
Marketing and opting out
We only send the Between Bros mailer to people who have asked for it. Every mailer includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribe requests immediately.
The mailer is sent from a discreet sender name and the subject line does not disclose the nature of our events.
11
The Bro chat
Bro is an automated AI assistant on this website, not a person. To answer you, the text of your conversation with Bro is sent to Anthropic, the company that provides the AI model, which processes it in the United States. We do not send your name, email address or IP address with it. Please do not type your name, contact details or health information into the chat.
We do not keep your conversation: Bro’s answers are not stored, and nothing is tied to you, to an account, to a device or to an IP address.
Under the chat there is a tick box asking whether we may keep the question itself, so that we can see what the website is failing to explain and fix it. It is left unticked: unless you choose to tick it, the wording of your question is not kept at all.
Where a question is kept, email addresses, phone numbers, links and long numbers are stripped out and replaced before it is stored. Nothing is saved that connects one question to another, or to a person. The newest 300 are kept and nothing older than 90 days, after which they are deleted.
Whatever you choose, we count which general subject a question was about, such as consent, tickets or sexual health. That is a number in a table and holds no wording and no identifier.
12
Cookies and website data
This website sets no advertising or analytics cookies and does not build profiles of visitors. Page views are counted on our own server without cookies. The Google map only loads if you ask for it.
Our Cookie Policy lists exactly what is stored in your browser and which outside services this website can connect you to.
13
Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
- ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained;
- object to processing on reasonable grounds, and object to direct marketing at any time;
- withdraw your consent; and
- complain to the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these rights, contact our Information Officer through the contact form or at info@capetownjacks.co.za. We may need to confirm your identity before we act. We will respond within a reasonable time and will not charge you for objecting, unsubscribing or correcting your information.

Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first so that we can put it right.
